AMPATH ANALYTICAL TOXICOLOGY DEPARTMENT
CLINICAL TOXICOLOGY:
Screening and testing for medication in a patient that has had an overdose; Screening and confirmation of drugs of abuse in biological tissue (urine, blood, hair, nails, saliva etc.) and identifying unknown substances in biological tissue.
FORENSIC TOXICOLOGY:
Toxicological testing for legal purposes, court cases and or post mortem.
PHARMACEUTICAL TOXICOLOGY:
Quality control testing according to Pharmacopoeia specifications.
COSMETIC AND FOOD RESIDUES:
Confirmation of compliance to legal or Quality standards as well as specified limits of tolerance for bulk raw products; Screening for unwanted substances.
TOXICOLOGY RESEARCH:
Assist in research on the effects of toxic substances and establish reference ranges; Ampath Analytical Toxicology database is published annually with SASOM; Publication and review of the occupational and environmental medical surveillance guidelines; Quality control reports according to ISO 17025 standards.
We adhere to the highest standard of professional medical ethics and corporate governance in business practice. Principles followed are based on the Health Professionals Council of South Africa’s medical and ethical guidelines and rules as well as those of SASOM and ICOH.
The services of Ampath Analytical Toxicology Division (AAT) are available to health practitioners and allied workers, industry, and pharmaceutical companies. AAT assists with investigations of often difficult and life threatening conditions.
